The Filipino Houses

Our house is considered to be the best place where we can rest and do whatever we want. We are free when we are in our own house. Our house, our shelter protects us from the heat of the sun and even from the pour of rain. Aside from it, our house protects us from any danger and it gives us the state of assurance and privacy.
Houses are also part of our rich culture. It may also portray the way of living that the owner has. It may symbolize simplicity and even high class of living of those who can afford. The evolution of house also signify how people’s life change.

Kubo: The traditional Filipino House
Our country is always devastated of natural and even man-made calamities that may destroy houses but ironically, the indigenous house of Filipinos is called ‘’kubo’’. The ‘’kubo’’ is usually made of Nipa, bamboo and anahaw leaves. Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut is the native house of Filipino even before the Spaniards came in the country. Although modernization is a wide talk today there are still many people who are still live in a ‘’bahay kubo’’ especially in rural areas. We may also observe that there are also many people who prefer to have a ‘’bahay kubo’’ in their backyard to serve as a ‘’bahay pahingahan’’ when it is hot inside their concrete house. It is good to take a rest inside a ‘’kubo’’ because of its natural ventilation that we can feel inside of it.
The Modern Filipino Houses
Maybe because our country is usually visited by calamities, the people choose to have a concrete house that can protect them from any danger caused by these calamities.  Nipa Hut or ‘’kubo’’ which can be easily destroy if heavy floods came unlike to a concrete house which can stand longer when calamity comes.
Nowadays, there are many people prefer to live and stay in a concrete house because it can give us the assurance that will be safe from any danger which the ‘’bahay kubo’’ cannot highly give us. Through modernization, the evolution of house continues to exist.
Whatever kind of house where we lived in the most important thing is that it gives us what we need, the protection that we want to have, a shelter where we can take a rest and we are free to do whatever we want.
