The Filipino Houses

Our house is considered to be the best place where we can rest and do whatever we want. We are free when we are in our own house. Our house, our shelter protects us from the heat of the sun and even from the pour of rain. Aside from it, our house protects us from any danger and it gives us the state of assurance and privacy.
Houses are also part of our rich culture. It may also portray the way of living that the owner has. It may symbolize simplicity and even high class of living of those who can afford. The evolution of house also signify how people’s life change.

Kubo: The traditional Filipino House
Our country is always devastated of natural and even man-made calamities that may destroy houses but ironically, the indigenous house of Filipinos is called ‘’kubo’’. The ‘’kubo’’ is usually made of Nipa, bamboo and anahaw leaves. Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut is the native house of Filipino even before the Spaniards came in the country. Although modernization is a wide talk today there are still many people who are still live in a ‘’bahay kubo’’ especially in rural areas. We may also observe that there are also many people who prefer to have a ‘’bahay kubo’’ in their backyard to serve as a ‘’bahay pahingahan’’ when it is hot inside their concrete house. It is good to take a rest inside a ‘’kubo’’ because of its natural ventilation that we can feel inside of it.
The Modern Filipino Houses
Maybe because our country is usually visited by calamities, the people choose to have a concrete house that can protect them from any danger caused by these calamities.  Nipa Hut or ‘’kubo’’ which can be easily destroy if heavy floods came unlike to a concrete house which can stand longer when calamity comes.
Nowadays, there are many people prefer to live and stay in a concrete house because it can give us the assurance that will be safe from any danger which the ‘’bahay kubo’’ cannot highly give us. Through modernization, the evolution of house continues to exist.
Whatever kind of house where we lived in the most important thing is that it gives us what we need, the protection that we want to have, a shelter where we can take a rest and we are free to do whatever we want.

HOME: The Best Place

There’s no place like home. That’s what I realized from the time that I just get back from Naga City. When I came back home, the feeling was awesome because it feels like I ‘am relieved and now in the place where I used to be.
After the one and a half month that I did not able to see the important people in my life, seeing again them when I got back was overwhelming. Aside from seeing my family and friends, I totally felt that I ‘am home when I saw and ate my favorite foods prepared by my mother. My sleep that night was awesome because I missed my own bed and my pillows.
When a tiring day is over, heading back home for me is the most exciting part of the day. I do really enjoy my ride in a jeepney when it is time to go home because it is my favorite part of the day. Although I ‘am tired and sleepy,  seeing my family waiting for me to come home makes my day full filled and feel satisfied of what I accomplished to that day. For me, I will never get tired of going home especially if I know that I have a happy family  patiently waiting for me to come back home.

Away from Home

Our internship last summer vacation became so productive because of so many things that I learned. Things that I might never know if I just stay in the four corner of our classroom. But the most important thing that I learned is to become more independent. For an almost one in a half month, I lived independently in Naga City.
It was my first time to be away from home. At first I felt the so called ‘’ home sick’’ but through the help of my board mates and classmates I became used to it.
For me, the most difficult thing that I encountered living far from my family was when it is time to laundry my clothes. Second hardest thing I experienced doing household chores when I was in Naga City is cooking. Although cooking is fun, when you’re tired and you literally want to sleep, I must get up and cook for myself because no one will do it for me.
Living alone and far from my family brought mixed emotions to me. The one and a half month stay in Naga City was an unforgettable experience because I learned so many things. It made me became more independent and responsible enough to face challenges that I may encounter while I’m on my journey.
I came back in Albay full of experiences and knowledge that I acquired during my internship which I may use when I’ll be in the real world of my chosen profession. The internship served as a stepping stone for me to experience the life when I go outside the school campus.
